Support Me

Hi my name is Mira Zola, I’m in 7th grade, and I’m having my Bat mitzvah in May of 2018. A few of my hobbies are rock climbing, reading and collecting MAD magazines and traveling.

I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve, a mutation of the aortic valve in your heart, and have been seeing a Cardiologist since I was 4 years old. Even though I’m enjoying my life in a healthy state, there are many kids out there with heart issues who can’t experience a lot of the things I have because of the severity of their heart defects. So, for my bat mitzvah project, I decided to give back to kids who do have much more severe heart conditions than I do.

I want to raise $5,000 for HEART BAGS for kids and families in the hospital!

Surgery is a scary and emotional time for both the patient and the family of the patient. With these heart bags both the CHD coalition and I would like to try to bring hope to everyone who has to experience this life changing event. And even though the nerves are high while the patient is in surgery, it’s after the surgery that can be the hardest. You can’t go back to doing the things you love for a good period of time and have to sit in the hospital for several days waiting until you can go home. Heart bags include things for children  to keep themselves entertained such as coloring books, art supplies, amazon and iTunes gift cards, books, and other activities. Whatever the child likes to do, and they can be personalized for each individual child.

But what if instead you aren’t the patient but the parent of the child. Watching your child go into a serious surgery such as heart surgery could probably be one of the scariest moments of you life too. The infant heart bags are given to the parents of infants who need to undergo heart surgery as newborns and in their first couple years of life. Infant heart bags include information about the surgery, contact information for support groups, a book written by a father who had to experience his own child having heart surgery, and other helpful resources to help parents be able to help their children after the surgery is over with.

You can read more about HEART BAGS on the CHD coalition website.  http://chdcoalition.org/programs/hospital-relations

By donating now you will be helping children and families who have to experience heart surgery. Be the person who makes a difference and donate now knowing that you just helped bring a smile to a child’s face!

I have a whole website about me, my project and Congenital Heart Defects http://mirasbatmitzvahproject.com . Feel free to have a look there, but don't forget to donate some money and put a smile on a kid's face!
